METABIOTA Cameroon (MCL) is recruiting for a PROJECT ASSISTANT for a CDC-Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) funded project with considerable experience in public health disease prevention and surveillance including epidemics and pandemics control and/or Laboratory and Environmental Health including biosafety/biosecurity. The position will be based at the Metabiota Cameroon office in Yaoundé.

MCL’s principle objectives include: research into the interactions between ecology and human health; infectious disease surveillance; the promotion of public health; the reduction of epidemic and pandemic threats in Central Africa; and the provision of trainings in public health research and practice.

About the Position: 

We seek a PROJECT ASSISTANT with a global perspective who shares our passion and dedication to successful implementation of results driven public health. A successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative, intense, and entrepreneurial environment. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with initiative, confidence, discipline, and content expertise to effectively manage challenges and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of global health, disease surveillance, and/or infectious disease topics with background in public health disease prevention and surveillance including epidemics and pandemics control. The PROJECT ASSISTANT will report to the Project Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist as necessary the Project Coordinator in all project planning, day-to-day implementation, ensure compliance with project proposals and timely execution of all activities.
  • Assist the Project Coordinator in the elaboration of project reports.
  • Implement all tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Administrative duties:

  • Daily administrative management of the project activities;
  • Handle record-keeping, word processing, telecommunications, scheduling, regular project mailing and other administrative support duties;
  • Filing, including the proper care, storage, handling and distribution of all files, including extensive program files related to individual activities;
  • Preparation of project documentation, including attendance sheets and meeting minutes that organize and record meeting content, including key topics, group decisions and action items;
  • Provide logistical support and administrative oversight for meetings, training sessions, workshops, and conferences;
  • Work closely with the Project Coordinator, Project Accountant, and Project Manager;
  • Assistance in financial tracking and budget planning;
  • Program management and documentation:
  • Assist the Project coordinator in planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of project activities;
  • Ensure that activities are implemented in accordance to the work plan and in timely manner and in line to project budget and with Project coordinator guidance;
  • Participate in the preparation of the monthly, annual and quarterly reports and work plans in timely manner;
  • Collect and organize activity reports from stakeholders and file accordingly;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in public health or equivalent degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work in a team, independently and to plan and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, especially within diverse international settings.
  • Available to travel domestically when needed.
  • Fluent in French and English (written and spoken).

Additional Information: 

  • Travel: Some In country travel will be required.
  • Salary and benefits: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience, within approved program budgets
  • Effective start date:  July 2019
  • Duration of Contracts: July 2019 – May 31, 2020, subject to performance and availability of funding
